Who Is Aromantic?

In this day and age, there is a lot of talk about gender and sexuality. However, people seem to gloss over the fact that romantic orientation exists, too. Therefore, when they hear terms such as aromantic they seem baffled.

People who identify as aromantic experience little to no romantic attraction. This lack of attraction doesn’t change regardless of the person’s gender. On top of that, they genuinely lack interest and desire to pursue romantic relationships. Nevertheless, aro people can still experience and fall in love.

A common myth surrounding aromantics is that they have no sexual desires. While that may be true for some aros, it is not a rule. Just because they don’t experience romantic attraction doesn’t mean they don’t experience sexual attraction as well. After all, sexual and romantic attraction don’t always go hand in hand.

What Type Of Aromantic Are You?

Think of aromanticism as an umbrella term for people who experience little romantic attraction. There are a bunch more romantic types under it. Let’s take a look at some of them.

Demiromantics

Demiromantic people experience no romantic attraction. But, that can change once they develop a strong emotional bond with someone. Think of it like this, they need to know someone’s ins and outs before getting attracted.

Lithromantics

Contrary to most aromantic folk, lithromantics do experience romantic attraction. There’s a catch though. The moment the person they are attracted to starts reciprocating the feelings, they lose interest in them.

Greyromantics

As the name suggests, greyromantics fall into a grey area of the aromantic spectrum. They tend not to feel any attraction whatsoever, but the right person can change that in an instant.

Cupioromantics

Despite experiencing little to no romantic attraction toward others, cupioromantics still desire romantic relationships.

Quoiromantics

Quiromantic people differ from aromantic folk based on their inability to differentiate between a romantic attraction and a platonic one.

These Signs Reveal Aromanticism

You Don’t Believe In True Love

When you hear your friends talking about finding their true love, you can do nothing but roll your eyes. Just like aros, you do not believe in the concept of soulmates.

You Never Had A Crush

While seemingly everyone is falling in love and having crushes all the time, you never had one. Moreover, you don’t even want to have one. If that sounds like you, there’s a good chance you are aromantic.

You Don’t Notice When People Flirt With You

You have a hard time noticing when others are showing you romantic attraction. Because you don’t experience it, you can’t distinguish when someone is flirting with you. On top of that, you sometimes accidentally flirt with others.

You Gave Up On Relationships

You used to date and were open to relationships. However, you quickly found out that they were not for you. You don’t enjoy and derive no pleasure from relationships.
